voi

A five day trip from limuru down to voi. I wasn't quite sure of the route but managed to stay on back roads most of the way. I carried my camping kit and spent two nights in the wondrous hotels of Kenya. I then packaged up my bike and got on the SGR back to Nairobi.

Day 1: Limuru to Mashuru

Day 3: Risa to Lake Chala

Day 1: Limuru to Mashuru

One of the longest days I have done on the bike, but I was assisted by the fact that it was generally down hill. I spent the night at the Blue Shade hotel - one of the stranger establishments - but only cost 600 KSH

Day 2: Mashuru to Risa

Day 3: Risa to Lake Chala

Day 1: Limuru to Mashuru

This was quite a hectic day, with over 10 punctures from those little bur spike things. Beautiful off-road cycling, saw giraffe, elephants, ostrich. Didn't make it to where I intended so ended up sleeping in a school!

Day 3: Risa to Lake Chala

Day 3: Risa to Lake Chala

Day 4: Lake Chala to Wundanyi

Cycling up to Oloitokitok was horrific, straight into a head wind, up a hill, it didn't feel like I was moving. Off the main road to towards lake Chala was beautiful. I camped at the old abandoned lodge overlooking the lake and even got a swim in.

Day 4: Lake Chala to Wundanyi

Day 5: Wundanyi to Tsavo House

Day 4: Lake Chala to Wundanyi

This was a cheat day. As the route was straight up the main tarmac road I decided to jump in a matatu to Mwatate and then another up to Wundanyi. The highway hotel in Mwatate is a great spot for lunch but the hotel I stayed at in Wundanyi started a club night at 2am.

Day 5: Wundanyi to Tsavo House

Day 5: Wundanyi to Tsavo House

Day 5: Wundanyi to Tsavo House

It doesn't get much better than this for cycling. A lovely dirt road, with cutbacks, views and cool spots to stop for tea. I camped at Mango campsite at Tsavo house (500 KSH) which is a great spot and close to the SGR station.
